I am definitely grateful to live in the city of San Francisco.
One of the treasures of San Francisco is the Exploratorium museum founded in part by J. Robert Oppenheimer’s (of Manhattan project fame/infamy) brother, Frank, also a physicist. The history is pretty interesting and can be read here
For students the museum can be quite enjoyable, with it’s demonstrations of optics, mechanics, E&M, etc. As a teacher I found myself drawn to the exhibits as something to have my students build in class. I definitely am having my students build the square-root calculator next year. Why not hack kinematics to build a calculator?>
